MAN OF THE MONTH: MARCUS SALTMARSH
Who is your favourite designer at Calexico Man and why?
That’s not an easy one—because it’s a four-way tie. Jacob Cohen for denim, Golden Goose for casual shoes, Frescobol Carioca for board shorts, men’s slides, and linen shirts, and AG for casual shorts and plain tees.
All four brands are doing something special with innovative materials that deliver lightweight durability and comfort, while also nailing that mix of seasonal style and timeless appeal. Men want practicality blended with style and longevity —and that’s exactly what you get with Jacob Cohen, Golden Goose, Frescabol, and AG.
Tell us about Frank and Teddy.
Frank and Teddy are Australian Shepherds—Frank’s 10½, and Teddy’s just shy of 3. Frank is Teddy’s uncle, and I’ve had him since he was 8 weeks old. Aussies aren’t as intense as Kelpies or Collies, but they’re still powerhouse working dogs. They need rules, boundaries, social interaction and—most of all—a sense of purpose and family.
Teddy came to me as a rebellious and completely untrained six-month-old. It was a testing first year, but he’s turned into an incredible dog—and he definitely looks up to and admires Frank.
If you’re thinking about getting an Australian Shepherd and you’re worried about dog hair, these are not the dogs for you. But if you’re ready to commit—train them, walk them, build trust, play, keep them engaged—then I honestly can’t imagine a better companion or a greater friend. They give you much more than dog hair in fact the return on investment is immense. That’s been my experience anyway.
What’s your favourite restaurant in Brisbane?
Equal first place: Same Same and Mosconi. The food is always incredible, the atmosphere and service is always first-rate, and the outdoor seating is a huge plus. But more than that—Ty and Bianca at Same Same, and Mark, JP, and Hayley at Mosconi have always welcomed Frank (and now Teddy), and that’s a big deal for us. It keeps us coming back.
What’s your definition of success?
No two lives are the same—we all start in different places and experiences vary along the way. So, for me If you’re feeling content, physically strong, owning your age, and setting a good example for other men irrespective of your age —you’re succeeding. All men can do these things to use our time well. So, that’s success as I see it.
Thanks for the chat and the catch up. We’ll see you in the store or around 4005.
