Article: MAN OF THE MONTH: GLEN ALLEN

MAN OF THE MONTH: GLEN ALLEN

Tell us about Civil Services Group.

Civil Services Group (CSG) sits at the core of the Allen Group of Companies. We’re a mid-sized engineering consultancy focused on project managing transport infrastructure for government clients across Queensland. From the beginning, our mission has been simple: do one thing, and do it exceptionally well.

What are your favourite Calexico Man pieces?

I wear it all. Calexico Man brings a blend of style and charisma that feels like an extension of who I am. My go-tos: Jacob Cohen jeans and shorts, Gran Sasso tops, a reversible jacket (depending on the day), Santoni sneakers or slides, and a Campomaggi bag. It reflects how I choose to show up, conscious, authentic, and always put-together.

Where's the next holiday destination?

2024’s been about travel, seven international trips so far! Next stop is Vancouver, then Turkey, with Vancouver always my home base. If I had 48 hours locally, I’d escape to Seagaven on Hastings Street in Noosa for beach time and a coffee at Moonstruck. If I’m in Canada, it’s Whistler or a getaway into the forests of Washington State with my girlfriend.

What's your ideal Saturday lunch in Brisbane? Where are you heading, who are you dining with, and what are you ordering?

Saturday lunch is either catching up with my best mate over prawns, chargrilled octopus and a Crown Lager, chatting cars and racing, or something more low-key, like Harvey’s with my daughter. Chicken salad and a glass of Shaw & Smith never miss.

What's next for CSG & AGOC?

We’re looking to diversify, expanding from engineering consultancy into building project management and re-entering property development. It’s about building a future-facing structure while continuing to back myself and my team.

What's something about consultancy most people wouldn't know?

The further you go, the less it’s about engineering and the more it’s about leading people. Consultancy is about adding value, and mastering business acumen is where the magic really happens.

Do you have any daily rituals, such as morning espresso, a quiet gym session, tailored routine that sets the tone for a successful day?

Early start with a bulletproof coffee, Pilates at The Body Refinery, a green smoothie, then into my Calexico staples and off to the office. Structure gives me clarity for the day ahead.

What’s one unexpected lesson life (or business) taught you the hard way, but you’re now grateful for?

Chasing success too hard can take a toll on the people you love. I’ve learned that being present and appreciating what is, not just what’s next, is where true success lives.

If your life had a soundtrack right now, what’s the first song playing when you walk into the room and why?

Die with a Smile’ by Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars. It’s my girlfriend’s and my twin flame anthem. It’s about living big, being all in, and leaving nothing unsaid or undone.
